Medical student jumps from two-storey to escape from rapist

A final year female medical student at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has sustained severe injuries after attempting to escape rape.

The victim, who is yet to be identified, is said to have jumped from the window of her second floor hostel after the suspected rapist barged in on her.

According to a Joy FM report Friday, the victim landed on her feet in her attempt to escape from the alleged rapist and ended up sustaining injuries at her waist.

The police at Korle Bu who confirmed the incident said the suspect has been arrested pending further investigations.

Excited woman falls to death after boyfriend's proposal.

A holidaymaker died in Ibiza after falling over a cliff as she celebrated a marriage proposal from her boyfriend.

Police say she lost her balance as she jumped up and down in excitement after her partner asked for her hand in marriage.

The pair, from Bulgaria, were at a beauty spot famed for its sunset views.

Dimitrina Dimitrova, 29, suffered a heart attack brought on by injuries caused by the 65ft fall in the tiny resort of Cala Tarida on Ibiza's west coast.

She was alive but unconscious when paramedics arrived but died at the scene minutes later.

The incident happened around lunchtime on Tuesday. A local Civil Guard spokesman said: 'Everything is pointing towards the death being the result of a tragic freak accident.'

A source added: 'Her boyfriend lived and worked on Ibiza. She had arrived two days earlier to visit him and look for work.

'She fell seconds after her partner surprised her by proposing to her as she jumped up and down with emotion.'

It is believed the dead woman's devastated waiter boyfriend had singled out the beauty spot to make his marriage proposal.

Last August a Polish couple fell to their deaths while taking a selfie at a cliff's edge in the popular tourist spot Cabo da Roca, Portugal.

Their children, aged five and six, witnessed the accident and were taken into care before returning to their homeland to live with relatives.

Kids' throat cut by Mother

A woman accused of trying to kill her three small children has told detectives she cut their throats with a kitchen knife to keep them quiet for her soldier husband.

Christina Booth, 29, of Olympia, Washington, said in the police interview that her husband never helped her with the six-month-old twins and the two year old and got “very annoyed” when they cried, according to court papers.

She was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of attempted murder bail was set at three million dollars. The Thurston County prosecutor’s office said she had not yet been formally charged.

The children were said to be in a stable condition after undergoing surgery and have been placed in the custody of the state’s child protective services.

The court papers said Booth’s husband Thomas told police his wife was being treated for post-natal depression.

Chinese mother sells new born for $7000

A woman in central China has been prosecuted for selling her new-born baby for $7,000, state media reports said, the latest of a string of shocking cases that have shed light on the country's trade in children.

The 30-year-old woman, surnamed Huang, allegedly colluded with an obstetrician, Yang, in Xinxiang county, Henan province, to sell the baby boy, according to details published in the Procuratorial Daily, a legal publication.

Yang sold the baby boy to a couple in the same county for 42,000 yuan. She gave 35,000 yuan to Huang and kept 7,000 yuan for herself, the report said.

The case came to light in August after the boy's grandmother alerted police.

The grandmother said Huang had left the village to go to her parents' home after quarreling with her husband.

When Huang returned two weeks later, she said the baby had died but the grandmother grew suspicious as her daughter-in-law didn't seem sad. A relative then discovered that the boy had been sold.

Huang had a son from a previous marriage and thought a new baby would be bad for the elder child, reports said.

The boy is now in the care of his father's family.

Child trafficking is a long-standing problem in China. A traditional preference for sons and the country's one-child policy means that boys are particularly prized.

Earlier this month, a Chinese man who was abducted from a vegetable market as a toddler enjoyed an emotional reunion with his father after 24 years apart.

The news came the same week police said they had busted a trafficking ring involving at least 103 people, and rescued 37 newborn babies that were transported in handbags and suitcases to prospective buyers.

According to the U.S. State Department's 2014 Trafficking in Persons Report, China does not fully comply with the recommended minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking; however, the report says it is making significant efforts to do.

Power crisis wahala- we're not being told the truth!

POWER CRISIS: WE ARE NOT BEING TOLD THE TRUTH - EXPERT

The Director of Operations of the Africa Centre for Energy Policy, Mr Benjamin Boakye, has bemoaned the deterioration in the power crisis currently facing the country.

Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM Monday, Mr Boakye said the power authorities were not telling Ghanaians the truth about the crisis, adding: 'The stories keep changing.'

He questioned why Ghana could not produce the 1900 Megawatts of electricity, which he said was needed to power the country.

According to him, even if Ghana could not secure gas from Nigeria to power the plants, crude oil ought to be bought to power them.

Mr Boakye added that the frequency at which power plants were serviced was also suspicious.

'Every week, every month, we are told they've [the plants] gone for servicing. That cannot be the case,' he said.

He therefore called for a technical audit of the entire power sector to ascertain what the problem really was

Deadly ECG pole at Adenta

This Is Dangerous: Broken Electric Pole May Cause A Disater In Adenta

OMGGhana.com gathers that an electric pole situated in the Adentan municipality has been in a poor state for almost one month and the authorities in charge seem not to care about it.

This is a clear indication of the lackadaisical attitude of the Electricity Company of Ghana in doing their work. This might lead to a disaster if authorities do not take appropriate action since the near broken pole, might fall and cause an accident.

OMGGhana.com therefore calls on the authorities to act immediately to ensure the safety of the residents.

Heavy rain storm destroys University of Ghana students' market

A heavy rain storm that hit parts of Accra on Saturday evening, has collapsed the University of Ghana students’ market popularly known as ‘night market’.

According to eye witnesses, the roofing members of the makeshift structure that served as stalls for food vendors were stomped out of the ground and dislocated.

A female vendor who was taking refuge under the shed at the time of the storm was reportedly hit by one of the flying roofing sheets and sustained serious injuries. Information however indicates that she is currently receiving emergency treatment at the University hospital.

The night market which serves as a food vending and general provisions point for the tens of thousands of university students and staff has seen no rehabilitation since its construction some five years ago.

Check out photos from the collapsed Night Market when OMG!Ghana.com visited the place early Sunday morning.

Facebook now free on Airtel Ghana

This is as a result of Airtel’s Partnership with Facebook as part of the social network’s Internet.org programme.

Airtel has already begun running adverts telling that public that they can surf Facebook on the network for free.

The Founder and CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, announced the partnership on his Facebook page Friday.

Zuckerberg said: “Today we're launching Internet.org in Ghana -- giving people on the Airtel network access to free basic internet services for education, health, jobs and communication.

“Right now only about 12% of people in Ghana are connected to the internet, but connectivity is already improving people's lives and communities.

“By connecting everyone, we hope to unlock even more opportunities for Ghana…”

Zuckerberg said Ghana was the fifth country that had connected through Internet.org -- after Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Colombia.

Thieves with magic hit Accra

The Director General of the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Reverend David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, has advised the general public to appreciate what they had and not be greedy as there were tricksters around taking advantage of people who want to cut  corners BY DIGISAVER" HREF="#">TO MAKE QUICK MONEY.

The DCOP spoke to The Mirror in relation to smart  or ‘magic’ thieves who rely on their brains and brawn to steal from their victims because all they (thieves) need is attention for victims to willingly hand over their valued assets.

In  some cases, unsuspecting victims had gone to the extent of borrowing  items or money they did not have, to give to the thieves who are said to be operating by means of hypnosis.

Hypnosis
Hypnosis is an induced sleep-like state in which a person is deeply relaxed but  the mind responds easily to external suggestions. Hypnotised subjects are said to show an increased response to suggestions.

Process
Narrating her ordeal, a young lady who gave her name as Nana Ama, said she was approached in Accra Central by two young men who asked for directions to a popular bank around the Makola shopping mall.

Unaware of their agenda, she directed them to the bank but just as she was turning around to go away, one of the gentlemen informed her he had pure BY DIGISAVER" HREF="#">GOLD in his possession and asked if she was interested.

“I don’t sell BY DIGISAVER" HREF="#">GOLD or deal in gold but for some strange reasons, I  told him I wanted to have a look at it so we moved to a less busy area around the shopping mall. Then he asked if I had GH¢1,000 on me,” she narrated.

Nana Ama said without any hesitation, she quickly pulled out  her purse and handed over GH¢ 300 to the gentleman as that was the only amount she had on her at the time.

The gentleman then handed her a white handkerchief and instructed her to hide it since it could be easily snatched by thieves.

It was after the men had left that she regained consciousness and realised she had been duped as the handkerchief contained an old washed-out necklace.

Another victim
A mobile phone recharge card seller at Adabraka also told The Mirror that she was in her shop when a young lady she knew came to buy recharge cards.

She said the lady who was speaking to someone on the phone requested for GH¢ 60 worth of the cards which she gave her.

She said the lady then scratched the cards and called out the digits to the person on the other side of the line.

She said she got worried when the lady asked for more cards and kept talking to the person on phone.

“This lady kept sending the phone credit to the guy he was talking to but because I know her, I didn’t say anything. It was when the amount reached GH¢400 that I told her to pay before asking for more.

“I overheard the man she was talking to tell her he would send the money through mobile money. That was when I realised she had been duped.   So I held her and demanded my money.  Just when the guy hang up, it looked like she had just woken up from sleep, she had no money on her.

“She then told me she received a message telling her she had won some money and that she needed to send some credit  so her prize  money could be sent to her,” she continued.

The card seller said she followed the lady home and collected the GH¢400 from her parents.

Police advice
DCOP Ampah-Bennin said the police had received several reports from victims on loss of property and money to strangers.

“The commonest of their tricks is to tell you they have BY DIGISAVER" HREF="#">GOLD or diamond and then lure you into giving them money or an item to the value of the gold,” he said.

He cautioned the general public,  especially females, to be careful of how they interact with strangers, saying “if you meet a stranger and he or she asks  for directions, do not follow the person.

“Just point to the general direction and move away. If you are not lucky, you could also be harmed or sexually abused in addition to being duped,” he stressed.

One of the 12 missing Metro Mass buses found.

We usually see these
kind of things in movies
but it happened in broad

Ghana!
A bus suspected to be one of the missing 12
Metro Mass Transit (MMT) buses, has been

The colour of the bus with registration

the original orange and black to cream.
The Daf bus which had 65 passengers when

Workers of the MMT about a week ago

China's population reaches 1.37 billion.

The population of mainland China stood at 1.37 billion at the end of 2014, an increase of around 7.1 million from the previous year.

The country continues to deal with a gender imbalance, with about 700 million men to 667 million women, according to data released yesterday by the National Bureau of Statistics, while the gender ratio stood at 115.88 newborn boys for every 100 newborn girls.

Meanwhile, nearly one million couples applied to give birth to a second child since China relaxed its one-child policy over a year ago. The number of applications falls short of the National Health and Family Planning Commission's estimates of less than two million annually.

My clitoris is gone forever!

Miss Kuurimah Umuhera Ibrahim is a former Integrated Development Studies student of University Development Studies who has released her latest song titled Why, a collaborative musical work with Noella Wiyaala that speaks against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) which has been in existence for years.

In an exclusive interview with Flex newspaper, she said: “The motive behind the Female Genital Mutilation, according to our elders is that, they want to prevent a lady from jumping from one man to the other to preserve her virginity till she gets married. They think the clitoris is a dirt, so when they cut it, it becomes clean. They say it’s a religion but I don’t agree with them because no religion will make women suffer. Also they talk about culture but I believe it’s not culture but rather torture.”

Kuurimah further recounted how as a young girl she went through the ordeal of female circumcision: “I was a week young when my clitoris was cut and I am now twenty five years old. My clitoris is gone forever is I speak to you. I never knew there was something like that so I lived life like any other lady but after I realized what they had taken from me, something that I can never get back, there has been sadness in me always that is why I have taken it upon myself to fight it because if we all keep mute, it will never stop. I don’t want any young girl to go through this pain.”

She stated emphatically that she has gone through a lot but she doesn’t care if she dies out of her resolve to create awareness to weed out Female Genital Mutilation from our society.

“People threaten me, attack me physically. Recently, petrol was poured on me and I was nearly burnt to death but I don’t care if I die through this. I want to fight for others so I am not scared with my decision. Besides, I am not alone but with God.

She projected that in five years, this project must have yielded positive results and also suggested that those who cut girl’s clitoris in the guise of culture should be arrested.

Ghanaians may not enjoy the African cup-GRIDCo

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has threatened to reduce power supply to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) from 600 megawatts to 300 megawatts.
The Public Relations Officer of ECG, William Boateng revealed this in an interview on Citi FM on Monday afternoon. He indicated that the managements of ECG and GRIDCo are yet to meet to discuss the reasons for the deficit and to decide on the next course of action for the country in relation to the ongoing load shedding.

This action would certainly be a huge blow to most Ghanaians who are football lovers since it means they’ll miss exciting moments of the ongoing African Cup.

EXPOSED: Sugar Mummy Agency operates in Nungua.

The youth of our nation are resorting to morally corrupt means of making a living and I ask myself, is this the only option?
My inquiries revealed that there are covert networking events periodically held in Accra and Kumasi which is aimed at bringing young ladies and gentlemen closer to their newly-acquired jobs (dating sugar mummies and daddies). This new way of living corrupts the social fabric that unites us as a nation and breeds laziness that would end up collapsing the economy.

A male partner ‘hooker’ agency which operates in Nungua is in the business of connecting young men with wealthy women. Sugar mummies who are interested in the services of young “strong men” for pleasure will have to pick and fill a form for ¢20 from the said agency. A staff of the agency would then link the applicant to an educated and strong young man.

A staff of the agency revealed in an interview with Starr Fm that the guys are readily available and are linked with the wealthy woman as soon as the applicant submits the form. He said,

“The guys are available and as soon as you are done with the processes you can have one today.”
The Agency has erected sign posts at various vantage points in Accra that carries all information about their operation.

Germany promises to help end Dumsor

Germany has offered to help Ghana solve its energy issues as well as in the education sector.
President John Dramani Mahama is currently on a state visit in Germany hoping to strengthen the relationship with the European powerhouse.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel promised to help Ghana end the erratic power supply that has raged on for over a year after the two leaders went into a closed-door discussion. Their talk also touched on issues affecting the continent as a whole.

Merkel said Germany is prepared to support the young oil-producing country in various sectors.

“For Ghana, it is providing electricity and electricity supplies which is of the greatest importance and we have been talking about making contribution towards developing renewable energy. We value the partnership with Ghana and it is a friendly one,” she said at a joint press conference.
She added:

“Ghana is a good democracy and good partner in West Africa. Our tides in the field of development cooperation are very close and we will also cooperate closely in the economic spheres.”
President Mahama said:

“On the bilateral cooperation level, we have strong cooperation in the area of energy and renewable power and KFW is financing several projects in Ghana in the way of energy. We are working with KFW to increase the power we get from solar energy into Ghana’s transmission grid.”

Lifestyle tips for people at 40

The phrase “Life Begins at 40” is often used to describe the middle age of one’s life. By 40, it is believed that under normal circumstances, many personal goals (marriage, bearing children, and dream job) of a person may have been fully or almost met.

The  number  of  older  persons  aged  40  years and  over  is  growing  in  all countries, and worldwide trends are likely to continue. In 2002, there was an estimated 605 million  older  persons  in  the  world, and out of this number,  nearly  400  million   were  living  in  low-income countries.  According to a World Health Organisation report, by 2025, the number of older persons worldwide is expected to reach more than 1.2 billion, with about 840 million of these in low-income countries

The reason for this positive increment is due to the fact that mortality rates have declined in virtually all countries as a result of the progress made in preventing infectious diseases and promoting good health. Growing to the age of 40 is not just a time to make an individual feel better – taking good care of the body will keep one fit and active well into later life.

Factors influencing physical ageing
Ageing is the organic process of growing older and showing the effects of increasing age (Advanced English Dictionary). The factors that affect physical ageing are as follows:

* Genetics

* Environment

* Nutrition

* Lifestyle

Nutritional requirements with ageing
The overall nutritional requirements of the older adult does not change. However, caloric intake decreases because of the loss of non-fat component of the body while the need for nutrients remains relatively unchanged. This makes eating foods that are rich in nutrients even more important for older adults.

The inability of individuals to adequately meet their nutritional requirement at this age poses various risks as susceptibility to chronic illnesses is relatively more increased, especially for men.

Prostate cancer
Prostate cancer is predominantly a disease of old age among men and is rare before 40-50 years. Excluding superficial skin cancers, prostate cancer is now the most common cancer in humans. Worldwide, over 660,000 new cases are diagnosed each year, accounting for 10 per cent of all new cancers in males. Prostate cancer is also the second most common cancer in Africa. In Ghana, according to Prof. Wiredu and colleagues, prostate cancer accounted for 17.35 per cent of all cancers identified and about 31.8 per cent of all cancers in males.

Nutritional tips for prostate cancer
Epidemiological studies have shown that the incidence of a clinically significant prostate cancer is significantly lower in countries where people eat a predominantly low fat, plant-based diet. The reduction of caloric and fat intake in dairy products (examples, milk, butter, cheese, cream), the increase in the intake of foods rich in lycopene such as guava, watermelon, tomatoes, pawpaw, red pepper, mango  and the maintenance of an adequate supply of vitamin D rich foods such as  cod liver oil, oily fishes, mushrooms, fortified cereals, milk,  soya products, yogurt and sun exposure, without an excessive intake of calcium, have been recognised as important constituents of a diet related to a reduced risk of prostate cancer. On the other hand, a research has shown that the excessive use of multivitamins (more than seven times per week) increases the risk of advanced and fatal prostate cancer and must be avoided.

Bone diseases
Bone diseases are conditions that result in the impairment of normal bone function and can make bones weak. After the age of 50, bones naturally weaken and this puts an individual at risk of certain diseases such as osteoporosis (a disease which makes bones fragile so they break easily). Additionally,  excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, use of glucocorticoid medications and natural processes such as hypogonadism ( low production of testosterone - the hormone that plays a key role in masculine growth and development) increase one’s risk of bone diseases.

Nutritional tips for bone disease
The provision of an adequate diet is obviously necessary to maintain optimal bone density. It is well known that sufficient amounts of protein, energy, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and vitamins D and K are necessary to achieve this. These can be obtained by eating a balanced diet, rich in calcium such as dark leafy greens, low fat milk and fish and vitamin D rich foods.

Heart Diseases
The lifetime risk of developing CVD at age 40  is 50 per cent for men and 33 per cent for women. Associated diseases such as diabetes have also been observed to be more pronounced among men at age 40 and above as compared to women.

Nutritional tips for heart disease
The consumption of a heart-healthy diet and a healthy life style will reduce the risks of heart disease to the barest minimum. Diets that are rich in whole grains and cereals such as maize, millet, sorghum, rice, vegetables such as bokoboko, ayoyo, bitter leaf, garden eggs, onions, tomatoes, and fruits (examples; mango, pineapple, orange, mango pawpaw) decrease the risk of heart diseases such as stroke and heart attacks, leading to an increased in life expectancy.

Foods that increase the risk of formation of plaque (deposition of cholesterol on blood vessel walls) in the blood vessels should also be restricted or avoided. Some of these foods are koose, doughnuts, boflot, kebab, butter, fried plantain. These foods may also be high in fat and thereby increase risk of obesity which is a forerunner of many diseases.

The risks of developing hypertension is far more increased at age 40, especially among men who are more exposed to other risk factors than their female counterparts. Salt and its substitutes such as mono sodium glutamate (found in many of the artificial spices) further increase this risk. The addition of salt to food that has already been served should be avoided. One should opt for low salt choices when selecting foods. When cooking, try as much as possible to use natural options of spices and also encourage the main food preparer at home (wife, sister, mother, house help) to do so.

Overweight /Obesity
As we grow older, we need less food because our bodies use up less energy. There is the need to adjust the amount of food consumed according to how physically active a person is to reduce the risk of overweight and obesity. Men, in particular, need to avoid excess weight gain because they are most likely to carry the extra weight in the abdominal area. This is known as central obesity and is commonly referred to as an ‘apple shape’. Carrying excess weight in the stomach area increases the risk of developing heart diseases and diabetes. Being overweight also increases the risk of developing cancers and severe obesity can place great strain on your joints. If you are overweight, slimming down can protect against diabetes and heart diseases.

Nutritional tips for obesity
A 5-year study of Hispanics and African-Americans reports that eating more fibre and exercising regularly are effective ways to reduce belly fat. Restrict intake of sweets, sugar sweetened drinks, high fatty foods and other refined carbohydrates. When these foods are consumed in excess, they are converted to adipose tissue for storage as fat, as well as increase blood sugar levels. Furthermore, the physical activity levels at 40 is much lower, hence the extra energy provided by these foods is not needed.

Healthy eating and lifestyle
The following healthy eating and lifestyle tips are recommended in order to maintain optimum health. All the foods used to prepare meals have been put in the form of three food steps to make it easy to make healthy food choices. Follow the Healthy Eating Food Steps below to plan a healthy meal.

Step 1 (bottom of step) of the tool includes carbohydrate foods which provide energy such as plantain, rice, cassava, vegetables and fruits. These foods should form the bulk of our meals. Make 6 – 9 choices from this group daily.

Step 2 includes foods which supply proteins and should be eaten in moderation (2 – 3 choices daily)

Step 3 includes foods which are mostly fat and oil sources and should be used in limited quantities (2 – 3 choices daily)

Eat regular meals
Try as much as possible and consume three main meals a day or two main meals with a healthy snack at four (4) to six (6) hours interval. Meals should consist of a varied diet. This will provide most of the required nutrient. Since appetite might be reduced at this age, the little food eaten at regular intervals should provide the nutrients required.

Drink enough water
Adequate water intake is needed for the body to function properly. Drinking about 6 – 8 glasses a day eliminates wastes from the body through urine and sweat. During the dry season, more water is needed to prevent dehydration. Water helps to distribute nutrients throughout the body. It also helps in digestion, temperature regulation and may provide minute quantities of minerals such as calcium and phosphorous.

Alcohol
Excessive alcohol intake can put one’s health at risk. Drinking four or more units a day may contribute to risk of overweight/obesity (especially around the abdominal area), high blood pressure, liver damage, mouth and throat cancers, depression and other long-term health problems. One to two units a day for those who drink is recommended, it is advisable NOT to start if you don’t drink. One unit of alcohol is half a pint of beer (1 small bamboo glass, 250ml), a single 25ml measure (tot) of spirits, and a small glass of wine.

Physical activity
Increase your physical activity levels by taking part in house chores with children, grandchildren or other family members. Exercise has numerous benefits such as blood circulation, alertness, improved immunity and slows the rate of ageing. Taking regular exercise also helps to control weight and brings about relaxation. All these benefits will make one feel and look better. It is important to engage in any form of moderate exercise on a daily basis or at least 3-4 times a week. A qualified physiotherapist or fitness instructor may be contacted for planned exercises.

Quit Smoking
Giving up smoking can lengthen a person’s days. People who smoke are twice as likely to die prematurely and 2 -3 times more likely to have a heart attack. They also put themselves at risk of lung cancer and harm those who breathe their smoke, including children. According to a 50-year British study, quitting smoking at age 30 could increase a person’s lifespan by an entire decade.

Cope with stress
The pain of stress is just as real as a broken leg. Ignoring it will not make it go away.  Some signs of stress are loss of appetite for food, feeling low, tiredness but also poor sleeping, short temper and flare-ups with others and reduced sex drive. Effective ways to manage or control stress include siting in a cool, quiet place and admiring nature, deep breathing, light strolls and taking a vacation. Doing this even for a few minutes a day can make a difference. It is also important to talk to family, friends, a doctor or a counsellor if the signs of stress do not go away or get worse.

Conclusion
An old French adage says 40 is the old age of youth;50 is the youth of old age, while Ghanaians jovially say “I am not 40, am only 28 with 12 years of experience”. Since this is an age at which most men would have achieved their potential and targets in life, it is imperative to guard health in order to live full and fruitful life. These few healthy eating and lifestyle guidelines will help achieve this goal.

20 people you should meet during adolescency

The people you meet always add something to your life, be it negative or positive. Regardless of the type of impact they leave, you always learn a valuable lesson from their presence.

Below are the different types of people you have to meet in your 20s to help shape you into the person you want to be.

1. The Giver

This person has dedicated their whole life to the simple art of giving. Be it giving a homeless person loose change or their time to an animal shelter, they are always giving. Being around this giving nature will unintentionally motivate you to give more of yourself too.

2. The Adventurer

The Adventurer is always going somewhere and always doing something unbelievably exciting. Although you may not always be up for everything they are up to, simply being around them when they do thrilling things will inspire you to break out of your comfort zone and do things you never would normally do. This person will push you to travel the world, which is what everybody in their twenties has to do at some point.

3. The Helper

This person is always willing to help no matter what their situation is. Whether it’s you in trouble or someone else, this person is always ready to help. Being around this person drives you to be more aware of people who are in need of help and extend your hand more than you usually would.

4. The Complainer

For this person, nothing is ever good enough. Nothing can ever meet their standards. When you are around them, all you ever hear is them complaining about something or the other. Although this may not be the healthiest environment, it helps you reflect on your views in life and makes you appreciate things more. Being around the complainer actually makes you complain less.

5. The Risk-taker

This person is constantly taking risks in their relationships or even in their workplace. They always seem to place everything on the line, which may not always work out well. Seeing them being extremely brave with their choices motivates you to be the same way. Even if you don’t become an extreme risk taker, you end up pushing yourself to be more risky than you usually would.

6. The Free-spirit

The Free-spirit has no ties to anything or anyone. They are constantly changing jobs and moving from one relationship to the next. They constantly move houses and sometimes countries. You may find it very hard to keep track of where this person is or what they are doing. Their freedom reminds you to not take life so seriously. They remind you how transient things can be, which helps you enjoy moments in life more.

7. The Stable One

The complete opposite of the Free-spirit, the Stable One has their life in order. They have the standard nine to five job with the very stable relationship and a lease contract valid for more than a year. These people weren’t always this stable. In fact, they probably were messes a couple of years ago. Being around them reminds you that it’s possible to gain stability even if it seems like your life is a mess. After meeting them, you know that things will get better with time.

8. The Bossy One

The Bossy One feels the need to take charge in every situation, which can get incredibly irritating at times. The Bossy One shows you how important taking charge is but also when you need to take a step back.

9. The Honest One

This person will tell you to the truth no matter what. It doesn’t matter if you are in tears, you know you’ll hear the honest answer to whatever question you just asked. Their blunt attitude towards life keeps you on track and reminds you how important the truth really is.

10. The Optimist

The Optimist always puts a positive spin on whatever situation they are in. Their blind positive attitude may be irritating at times, but it reminds you that you should always look on the bright side no matter what obstacles cross your path.

11. The Pessimist

The Pessimist prevents you from floating away on The Optimist’s cloud of positivity. They keep you grounded by reminding you of all the things that could go wrong. Their constant negative attitude on life keeps you in touch with reality, but also makes sure you maintain a balance between being a realist and an idealist.

12. The Married One

This person has found the love of their life and has made the ultimate commitment. Knowing someone like this helps you figure out what you want, while subtly stressing the existence of love and it’s importance.

13. The Manipulative One

Everyone has to meet The Manipulative One at some point in their lives. This person manages to get what they want by using you as the pawn. After you realise how you’ve been manipulated, you learn to be more cautious in life. The Manipulative One teaches you to be stronger than you thought you could be.

14. The Backstabber

When you meet this person, you will trust them with everything only to have them use it against you. It’s important you meet someone like this to remind you that being trusting is the best quality you can have while betraying trust is the worst.

15. The Wise One

This person has a quote stored in their minds that applies to almost any situation you find yourself in. They are like a walking self-help book. They also have the best advice when you find yourself stuck. Being around The Wise One allows the wisdom to rub off on you as well.

Nigeria: Soldiers rescue 14 pregnant teenagers and 8 children

Soldiers from 144 Battalion, Asa, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State have rescued 14 pregnant teenagers and eight children from a motherless babies’ home at Umunkpeyi Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.

Also arrested by the soldiers were six young men, who claimed to be staff of the home, and two girls, aged 16 and 25. However, the proprietress of the home, Mrs. Nma Charity, is still at large.

It was gathered that Mrs. Charity claimed to be running a government-approved home, but engages in child trafficking and hiring of men who impregnates the teenage girls.

Sources told Vanguard that on delivery, each girl got N20,000, while their babies were sold for between N80,000 and N150,000 for females and males, respectively.

One of the suspects, who was caught at Eke-Akpara in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area, while trying to steal a baby, confessed that he had been in the business with Mrs. Charity for a long period, stating that his role was to steal a child and deliver it to the her, who in turn sold it to her customers.

Acting on the confession of the suspect, the Commanding Officer 144 Battalion, Lt. Col. Omolori Rasheed, ordered his men to raid the home where about 14 pregnant teenagers and six young men were arrested, while the proprietress of the home was away at the time of the raid.

A soldier, who declined to have his name in print, told Vanguard that the babies, between the ages of one and six, and the pregnant teenagers, would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and Other Related Matters, NAPTIP, while the other persons would be handed over to the police for prosecution.

Algeria dares Ghana

With their first three points safely tucked under their armpits and a lead in the Group C standings, Algeria are confident they will be the first to progress from the 'Group of Death.'

How do they intend to do that? By winning again when they play Ghana in their second game on Friday.

"We saw Ghana play against Senegal and if that is how they are going to play, then we strongly believe we will win against them. Football does not follow logic, but sometimes, you play a team and you just know you will win.

If we survived against South Africa, then certainly, we can make it against Ghana even though we are not going to underrate them," Coach Christian Jean Gourcuff said in a post match interview.

Though he insisted they would take their campaign one match after another their fighting spirit and unrelenting effort is their trump card against a Ghana side that showed up in the first half but went to sleep in the second half against Senegal in their opening game last Monday.

The Black Stars took the lead but eventually succumbed to a 1-2 loss, thanks to an injury time goal from substitute Moussa Sow.

Moments later, the Algerians were lucky to have survived against South Africa, spared the embarrassment of conceding many goals in the first half when South Africa failed to make the most out of the numerous chances they created, including  a penalty.

Eventually, the Algerians found their rhythm and managed to come from a goal down to win 3-1.

The youthful and determined Bafana Bafana literally had the Desert Foxes at their mercy right from the start of the match, but naivity and inexperience left Coach Ephram Shakes Mashaba, his bench and the fans who obviously were routing for the South Africans, gasping in disappointment.

Coach Mashaba has every right to be angry with his players for botching a golden opportunity to beat Algeria in their opening Group C match last Monday, rather, he is trying to find out from the team's psychologist what might have gone wrong.

"I still can not explain what happened to the team because we had everything right. We played well, created the chances and sustained the pressure but our final delivery is what messed us up. This was simply our match to win," Coach Mashaba told a post match press conference.

322 drivers prosecuted for misuse of DV plates

Three hundred and thirty-two drivers accused of misusing defective vehicle (DV) and drive-from-port  (DP) number plates have been fined a total of GH¢139

The accused persons, whose vehicles were impounded in two separate operations conducted by the Accra Regional Command, have since appeared before the motor and magistrate’s courts.

In the two swoops organised simultaneously by the seven divisions under the Accra Regional Police Command on December 28, 2014 and January 3, this year, 818 cars were impounded and their drivers also arrested.

Prosecution
Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mrs Affia Tenge, said the operation was to prevent people from using cars with DV number plates to commit crime.

According to her, the command had recorded a significant number of crime cases such as robberies and car snatching in recent times in which cars with DV and DP number plates were used.

She said though a few of the cases were still pending before the courts, some of the drivers were acquitted and discharged by the courts after proving to the courts that they had not broken the law.

“Before putting them before the court, the arrested persons were screened and some of them who provided documents covering their vehicles, log books and licences were released.”

However, she said, there were still a number of the vehicles parked at the various police stations that had not been claimed by their owners.

Breakdown
In the unannounced operation carried out in December 2014,  342 vehicles with DV and DP number plates were impounded, while on January 3, 2015, the police impounded 476 vehicles.

The drivers of all the vehicles were also arrested.

The Nima Divisional Police impounded 142 vehicles and arrested their drivers, out of which 47 persons were arraigned and fined a total of GH¢15,450.

The Dansoman Police arrested the drivers of 56 vehicles. Out of the 36 drivers put before the courts, those found to have flouted the law were fined GH¢120.

Out of 57 arrests, the Ministries Divisional Police arraigned 25 persons who were fined GH¢10,620.

On the part of the Tesano Police, 72 out of the 106 persons arrested were put before the courts and fined GH¢29,810.

The Kaneshie Police which impounded 81 vehicles generated GH¢15,000 as fines from 32 accused persons.

Out of 132 arrests, the Madina Police prosecuted 48 people who were fined GH¢29,610, while the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) prosecuted 33 out of 51 arrested persons, and bagged GH¢19,080 for the state.

The  Kpeshie Division prosecuted 39 out of the 98 persons arrested and bagged GH¢19,000.

Law on DV
In accordance with the Road Traffic Act (2004), a trade licence can be used when a motor vehicle has been offloaded from a ship and is being driven to the garage.

The unlicenced number plate can also be used when a vehicle is being tested or tried by a prospective buyer.

The use of DV and DP plates outside the business period of 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. is prohibited by law.

Mrs Tenge explained that DV and DP licence plates were given to be used temporarily for vehicles that were under repairs, but some drivers abused the regulation.
